The second half of the session will involve some gentle exercise/activity. Whilst this is advisable, it is optional!

Active golf

Active Golf  is a brand new initiative for you to be referred into by your GP or medical practitioner.

Active West Lancs will be holding weekly golf sessions on Fridays, 10am -1 2pm at Beacon Golf Club, Upholland WN8 7RU.

Equipment can be borrowed on the day – no previous golf experience needed!  So if you fancy some fresh air, meeting new people and socialising, then have a chat with your GP and if you meet the criteria, then you can be referred.

NB Unlike our other programmes – this is GP referral only!

Couch to 5K starting in Burscough

Active West Lancs is launching a new 12 week beginner running programme in Burcsough.  The Couch-to-5K group will meet every Monday and Wednesday starting on Monday 11th September 2017 at Lordsgate Primary School.

Health Week 2017

Active West Lancs is organising a week of FREE, fun activities in September as part of a Lancashire-wide initiative.

Events will include:

Monday 18th – Active Eco

Open day at Burscough Community Farm, Meadow Lane, L40 4BB including hands-on harvesting (if you choose), craft activity and refreshments – 10am – 2pm

Tuesday 19th – Active Walks

Join us for some fresh air and well-earned refreshments afterwards!

  • Strollers – 3 mile walk – meet at 11am
  • Striders – 6-8mile walk – meet at 9.30am.

Both walks start from Beacon Country Park Visitor Centre, Upholland WN8 7RU

Wednesday 20th – Active Weight

Come over to Tanhouse Community Centre, Ennerdale, WN8 6AN and enjoy a healthy meal at ‘Junkyard Café’ and try out our ‘Smoothie bike’, blood pressure checks etc – 12 – 2pm.

Thursday 21st – Active Mile

#yourmileyourway – join in our Lancashire-wide campaign to see how many miles we can collectively clock-up eg walking, running, rowing, pram, cycling, swimming etc and don’t forget to record your mile afterwards at www.activewestlancs.org.  We’d love you to send us some selfies of your mile!

Friday 22nd – Active Leisure

9am – 12pm Come along and try out a range of activities including; indoor bowls, badminton, squash, table tennis, virtual spin, body conditioning and walking football. Join us for refreshments and leisure quiz at 12pm. Venue – Burscough Racquets & Fitness Club, Bobby Langton Way, L40 0SD

All activities are free of charge and open to residents of West Lancs.

Community food growing newsletter

The CVS Community Food Growing project has just published its latest newsletter – read it here.

The West Lancs Community Food Growing Project aims to get more people involved in growing their own food and eating more healthily. We are working with local communities and schools to set up community food growing initiatives and providing help in finding the land (and funds) that might be needed.
