West Lancs Walking Festival

West Lancs Walking Festival runs runs from 30th July until 28th August and will provide walks suitable for people of all ages.

The festival offers everything from short, themed, informative strolls to long distance countryside rambles. A variety of different walk leaders and external organisations work alongside the Ranger’s helping to provide walks that cover as much of West Lancashire’s wonderful countryside as possible.

Skelmersdale Health Walks

Let your feet hit the street!

The new Skelmersdale health walks start on Tuesday and are open to all—no booking required.

Just turn up at the Visitor Centre at Beacon Country park, Upholland WN8 7RU on Tuesdays at 10.30.

The walks last around an hour and are suitable for beginners and those returning to exercise

  • Please wear suitable clothing and footwear for all weathers
  • All new walkers are requested to arrive 10 mins prior to walk commencing

Green Fayre

Unfortunately the Green Fayre has now been cancelled!!

This decision was made due to the car parking facilities being waterlogged and not having enough time to dry out prior to the event.

Summer Activity Booklet 2016

This year’s Summer activity booklet is now available with details of a wide range of activities for children and young people in West Lancs this summer.

It been published by West Lancs School Sport Partnership – in conjunction with West Lancs Borough Council and Lancashire County Council – and you can download it here.

Meet the Team Day – July 15th & 16th

We will be holding a free ‘Meet the Team session’ on Friday 15th & Sat 16th July at Nye Bevan, Skelmersdale.  If you are interested in any part of the Active West Lancs scheme, do come along and meet our Activity referral officers for Active west Lancs – Craig and Andy –  on Friday 15th between 3pm and 6pm and Sat 16th between 9am and 1pm.  You can take advantage of a free “Boditrax” session while you are there!  Boditrax is a body composition analyser that provides an instant analysis of your health and fitness status.

National Fitness Day

National Fitness Day is Wednesday 7th September 2016.  The aim of the day is to make it the most active day of the year – through people participating in free 30 minute sessions.

People can take part in a free fitness class, gym session or swimming session at Nye Bevan – Skelmersdale , Park Pool – Ormskirk, Burscough Sports Centre and Banks Leisure Centre.

Dr Feelwell

In partnership with Mersey Care NHS Trust, school based Health and Well Being Officers will be delivering age appropriate health promotion messages using a digital platform – Dr Feelwell.

Dr Feelwell is a simple yet powerful concept that allows key messages including Healthy Heart, Be Weight Wise, Health Eating and Get Active to be delivered to young people and their families.
