Move it or Lose it FABS fitness class CANCELLED

Margaret Wilkinson, organiser of the new Move it or Lose it classes says:  ‘With the Coronavirus situation escalating, I have made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend my Move it or Lose it classes. Please note there will be no class on 19/03/20 and ongoing. I am disappointed to have to take this action but as you will appreciate, we are experiencing unprecedented times and the health of my class members always comes first.

Please be reassured that the classes will resume as soon as it is deemed safe to do so and I will keep you informed when we are able to restart. Any prepaid classes will of course be carried forward and I will adjust this accordingly.

I’m sorry that we’ve had to suspend the classes after only 4 weeks and just want to take this opportunity to say thank you for the overwhelmingly positive responses I have received so far!’

New FABS fitness class for over 60’s

A FABS fitness class designed specifically for the over-60s has been launched in Ormskirk as part of a national campaign to help people stay active and independent as they get older.

Active West Lancs has teamed up with the MOVE IT OR LOSE IT® programme, to provide these classes to help older adults live healthier, happier lives.

Margaret Wilkinson, specialist instructor for MOVE IT OR LOSE IT® is on a mission to improve the strength, balance and overall health of the local over 60s community and is encouraging them to come along to an exercise class with a difference!

FABS stands for Flexibility, Aerobics, Balance and Strength and the class involves exercises which were developed by the Centre for Healthy Ageing Research at the University of Birmingham. The exercises have been scientifically proven to turn back the clock, are suitable for everyone and can be done seated or standing depending on mobility.

Classes take place at:

  • Emmanuel Methodist United Reformed Church, Derby Street, Ormskirk L39 2DE, Thursdays 10-11am
  • Brookside Retirement Living, Aughton Street, Ormskirk, L39 3BH, Thursdays 2-3pm.
  • Emmanuel Church, Ormskirk Thursdays 11.15am – 12.15pm

Walking Football sessions

Walking Football sessions are being held in Ormskirk School, Wigan Road L39 2AT on Wednesdays at 5 - 6 pm

Aimed at the over 50s, Walking Football matches are played at a slower pace with players briskly walking through matches - with no running allowed.  This reduces pain, discomfort and injury and allows people who have loved the sport to once again safely get back to playing.  It also introduces the sport to people who perhaps have never considered playing before.

It is fun, friendly and can help you feel fitter and healthier!
